Here are the results, albeit late, from the alaska state meet on 10/3. the bigs news from
our meet is that Dimond junior, Darcy Dugan, lost for the first time ever in alaska xc
competiton. The two-time defending champ dugan, 17th at the footlocker west last year,
destroyed course records and the competition all season. The closest anyone came was
Kikkan Randall (10th @ footlocker west) when dugan beat her by 40 seconds in the district
meet. At two prior invitational Dugan had beaten Randall by 1:10 and 1:30 margins. Dugan
came down with the flu the week of the state meet but still held a 20 second lead after
3km. Dugan faltered badly in the final kilometer slowing to a jog as Randall closed and
finally passed her in the final 200. Dugan barely made the finish losing 11 seconds in
that last 200. Though not fully recovered from her illness and the state meet Dugan ran a
open 1600 track race 3 days later and just missed the state record by 0.5 running 5:00.6.
