Subject: State Meet Results and Footlocker

We had our State Meet 11/28 and I’m proud to say we won our very first State Title ever. It capped off a truly amazing, memorable season where we went undefeated with really only five runners. Our 6th and 7th never improved enough to even challenge our 5th runner. Anyway, the following is our State Meet results if you’re interested. Didn’t know if you received a copy or not...

Sorry, but I do not have the complete results. The top 20 were printed in the newspaper as they were the award winners (I knew my #5 girl came in 21st - ugh, so close to a medal). The course was relatively flat, all grass, and the conditions were scattered showers and VERY windy. As you can see by the times, our runners don’t really compare with the ones in California with the exception of a couple of runners. That’s why I wanted to find a meet not too big for when we go up there next Fall. It should be quite a challenge for my girls.

On the boy’s side: It was Kamehameha’s 2nd consecutive team title and the first for James Googe individually. Unfortunately he comes from a military family and will not be returning to Hawaii for his Senior year. Interesting sidebit: Sara Bei of Montgomery quite possibly could have placed in the top 25 in our BOYS race!

On the girls side (which I know more about): It was our first team title and Eri McDonald’s 4th consecutive individual title. The 1st person male or female to ever accomplish that feat in Hawaii. However, it was her 1st ever loss on the team side for both track and cross country. Also of
note:  Our League went 1, 2, and 3 and we placed 11 girls in the top 14 (all but Eri return next year). Iolani returns four of our top five,  Kamehameha returns their top three, and Punahou their #2 and #3 (Eri graduates, but her sister Pippa will be a Freshman next year so they really won’t lose much).

It was an extremely intense and stressful week and a half with League Champs and States and it looks to be very  close again next year with so many returning runners. Promises to be fun...
