US #4 Jorge Torres won his third straight Illinois championship in 14:00 (3 mi); St. Charles girls win back to back, only 3rd Illinois team to do so.

Boys AA - sr Jorge Torres 14:00 and  Wheeling 126 (1-3-24-45-53), Elmhurst York 131.
Girls A - so Mindy Peterson, Rockridge Taylor Ridge 15:00; Woodstock Marian 91 (1-14-17-24-35)

Duplicating our own Jim Spivey's best at Detweiler Park, Jorge Torres gets as close as possible to going sub-14 without actually joining the club. He did, however, win his 3rd straight State title and lead his team to a State Team championship. The following partial results were taken from the Chi Trib Web page.

For those interested in girls' results, I've included the following. Interesting, I believe Mitchell was trying to duplicate Torres feat of winning 3 straight titles. However, she finished what I presume to be a disappointing 7th.

St. Charles girls win 2nd straight

St. Charles HS Girls Cross Country Team became only the third school in the state of Illinois to become back to back State Champions, joining Wheeling and Palatine. The Saints won a closely contested race over Naperville North 83-111.

Four time All-Stater Tera Moody led the way finishing 12th in 14:35 over the 2.5 mile course.. (new distance for the girls this year, up from 2.1). Sophomores Carrie Phelps (22, 14:50) and Christine Wampach (23, 14:51) also made the All-State Team. Denise Hefferin (Jr., 32, 15:02) and Renee Kleckner (Sr., 50, 15:17) each running in their 3rd State Final rounded out the scoring with a 42 second split. Senior Lauren Brannon running in her 4th Final ( 54th, 15:19) was ahead of all 5th runners except Naperville’s. Likewise Elizabeth Altekruse (Jr., 101, 15:48) running in her 1st State Meet was ahead of all 5th runners except Naperville and Wheaton North (4th Place Team - 229 points).

Naperville put together an incredible 11 sec. pack . placing 25-31-37-39-40.Lake Zurich was 3rd - 165, Champaign Centennial 5 - 231, Benet Academy from Lisle 6 - 236, and York 7- 247. ( St. Charles, Naperville, Wheaton, Benet, and York were the 5 teams to advance from the East Aurora Sectional) Individual Champion was Ann Gaffigan from Springfield14:03, 2. Katie Hartman, Woodstock, 3. Christin Wurth , Bloomington, 4. Lissa Vogley, Benet, 5. Jenni Goebel, Willowbrook,6. Rachel Endress, Wheaton N. 7. Becca Mitchell, Geneva.
