6A-5A held at Rimrock Farm, Lawrence, site of the NCAA Championships
Weather was rainy, windy, cold, muddy, course very sloppy and slow. Weather
and course deteriorated during the meet

4A-3A-2A-1A held at Wamego CC, in same conditions
10/31/98 for both meets

6A BOYS David Williams of Lawrence and Isaac Allen of Olathe East hooked up in another classic duel at Rimrock, repeating their 1-2 finish from last year. Unlike last year’s lean-at-the-line victory, this time Williams pulled away on the Jim Ryun Skyline with 250 to go. Sophomore Scott Loftin of Blue Valley North made a late rush to almost collar Allen.
Van Rose’s Shawnee Mission Northwest team placed 4 in the top 20 to easily capture their fifth straight title.

came out of the vicious Shawnee Mission Regional. The winning times show how terrible course conditions were.  Shawnee Mission Northwest ran a clutch race, moving hard from the Billy Mills Hill 800 out to the finish, keying on top-ranked Olathe South and #2 SM East, both who had defeated them at the regional.
