11/6/98 at Saratoga State Park, Saratoga NY - 3.05 miles - overcast, 40s, no wind New York Section 2 ChampionshipsFrom: K Arthur Wirgau [mysticlane@email.msn.com] (from the Statman - K Wirgau) BOYS SECTIONAL ALL-STARS - GIRLS SECTIONAL ALL-STARS GIRLS CLASS A - GIRLS CLASS B - GIRLS CLASS C-D Note that the numbers in parenthesis next to the teams are the current state rankings
of the team. BOYS SECTIONAL ALL-STARS GIRLS SECTIONAL ALL-STARS Shen guys won their 9th Sectional Championship (77,84,91-92,94-98) and 5th in a row. Dylan Welsh of Saratoga won his 3rd sectional championship in a row and ran the fastest time at Saratoga State Park (SPAC) during the sectional championships for boys Class A. His time is the 2nd fastest ever on this course - the record being 14:35 by Trautmann in 1984 at the NY State Championships at SPAC. Cloutier of Shen ran the 4th fastest all-time and Tebbano of Shen ran the 6th fastest of all-time at SPAC during the sectionals. The times indicated the race was fast. The top 6 team finishes were identical to the Suburban Council Championships last weekend. (16 teams) 1 Dylan Welsh (Saratoga) 14:55 [one of the top runners in country] SUMMARY: Queensbury won their 14th Sectional Championship (78-86, 88, 90-92, 98) and their first in 5 years. A sidenote - this was the first time in the last 5 years that a Catlett from Albany Academy has not been in the top 3 at Class B sectionals. Times were slow compared to the past. To break into the top 10 fastest times they would have had to run 15:38 (16 seconds faster). (16 teams) 1 Seton McAndrew (Q) 15:54 SUMMARY: This was the 1st time that Catskill every won the Sectional Championships!
They had to be excited!! Times were slow compared to the past in this race. To break into
the top 10 fastest times they would have had (15 teams) 1 Chris Stanzione (Catskill) 16:13
SUMMARY: Saratoga ladies won their 10th Sectional Championship (87-93,96-98) and 3rd in a row. Danielle Coon of Saratoga won her 2nd sectional championship in a row. Coon ran 17:15 last year compared to the 17:32 she ran this year. It was interesting to see how well Burnt Hills improved over last weekend when they finished 5th in the Suburban Council Championships with a score of 132 so they improved considerably. (14 teams) 1 Danielle Coon (Saratoga) 17:32 SUMMARY: Queensbury won their 12th Sectional Championship (77-78, 81-88, 97-98) and 2nd
in a row. They were led by Caitlin Hickin with a 18:10 which is the 4th fastest in girls
Class B history at SPAC. This was her 2nd win in a row and considerably faster than her
time last year (18:31 so she was 21 seconds faster). Erin Sprague, her teammate, seems to
have stuck right by her during the race to come in 2nd with a very fast time on that
course. 1 Caitlin Hickin (Q) 18:10 SUMMARY: Chatham won their 2nd Sectional Championship (85), a 12 year drought. They
have actually been knocking on the door now for the last 3 years with 2nd
place finishes to Galway. Galway had won 4 Sectional Championships in a row but in this
race they came in 2nd to Chatham. Laura Hudson lead Chatham with a 18:35 which was the 4th
fastest ever by a Class C-D girl. 1 Laura Hudson (Chatham) 18:35 |
