New York Federation Championships
11/21/98 at Van Cortlandt Park, New York City
The federation consists of the state public schools (NYSPHSAA), state Catholic
schools (NYSCHSAA), New York City public schools (PSAL), and state
independent schools (NYSAISAA).
Freshman Alexis Lake of Horseheads HS scored an upset victory in 18:10.9, seven seconds ahead of so Danielle Coons of Saratoga, but all else ran to form. Coons' second place (first in the scoring) led Saratoga to another state title with 48 points (1-2-11-13-21). In the boys race, US #22 sr Dylan Welsh, Saratoga, breezed to a 9 second victory in 15:38.9; the Shenendehowa boys 63 (4-7-9-10-33) rounded out the trend of favorites. Lake had finished 7th, 17 seconds behind Coons' second at last week's last week's NYSPHSAA class A race; the winner of that race, so Katie Twarig, Colonie, was 22nd today in 19:03; class B jr Jillian Mastroianni, Sayville, fastest girl last week, did not run.
