Ohio State Meet

Top-ranked Cincinnati St. Xavier boys win Big School title after regional upset; Brian Godsey, Cincinnati Lakota East, 15:08, topples defending champion Joe Barnes by 17 seconds.  Cincinnati Colerain girls, with all seven runners under grads, trounced Dublin Coffman 73-130.  Sr Lyndsi Gay, Reynoldsburg, 17:37, was a 10-second winner over jr Jinny Hanifan, Anthony Wayne.

OHIO XC STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS

After getting upset by Centerville HS (a Dayton Suburb) at the Regional Finals, Cincinnati St.Xavier, the top ranked school in Ohio, came back in the Big School (division I) final at the Scioto Downs Horsetrack to win.

Individual champ Brian Godsey from Cincinnati’s Lakota East HS dominated this race, and destroyed co-favorite Abraham Nabte, Columbus Eastmor (finished 22nd - 16:00) from Ethiopia in the process. Defending state champ Joe Barnes, 1997 footlocker finalist (13th), had raced
Godsey several times this fall. He ran off the pace through the first 2 miles then threaded his way through the dead and dying over the last mile. Several other Dayton area runners followed him into the top 10 as southwest Ohio schools dominated.

Nationally 4th ranked Cincinnati Colerain won it’s second straight big school title. Their top 5 averaged 18:51 on the run to the huge 73-130 victory over Dublin Coffman. All of Colerain’s state 7 return for 99! Southwestern Ohio took 2 of the 3 top places as suburban Dayton school
