Men's 3K Steeplechase
|
Pictures and commentary by Doug Speck
Joel Atwater (Weber State) may be one of the more
talented athletes to take up the steeplechase in Chick Hislop's Weber
State barrier-water jump dynasty. A sub 1:55 800m runner last year in
Utah, he was ninth in the NCAA 1500 meters, is tall, runs with a snappy
stride, and seems suited to the hurdles. He had run 8:54.64 earlier in
the year. At this level he dominated fairly convincingly, winning by ten
seconds over Colorado State's Gabe Olchin (9:30.61). Atwater's 8:54.64
is the #6 World Junior time thus far this season. |
