Doug Speck sent interview questions by email to American athletes heading for Poland.

1) Your Name
Jinny Hanifan

 2) The School you attend (also its city and your state) and if you run for a
club in the summer what is the
name of the club?
Anthony Wayne High School in Whitehouse, Ohio. I run for the Toledo Firebirds
in the off-season.

3) What grade are you in?
I will be a senior in the fall...class of 2000.

 4) Briefly summarize your 1999 Track and Field Year so far--
My track season went pretty well. A few highlights were: winning our league
meet in the 4 by 800, 1600,
800, 3200. Winning the 4 by 8 and 3200 in districts and runner up in the
1600. Also placing first at
Regionals in the 4 by 8 and 3200 and taking third in the 1600. At the Ohio
State Meet our relay team placed
3rd and I finished (a disappointing) second in the two mile. I scratched the
mile because of the intense heat
on the track (111 degrees). I ran at the National Scholastic Outdoor. I also
ran National Youth Athletic
Championship where I finished first in the 3000m
 5) What are your lifetime bests in your event or events (if you compete in
more than one)? Cross Country
5k- 17:42, 800- 2:17.6, 1500- 4:43, 1600- 5:00.63, 3000- 10:13.43, 3200-

 6) What are your thoughts as you head to the World Youth Meet in Poland next
week? I am very excited
because it's a great opportunity to go an experience international
competition. To see where I stand amongst
other girls my age in the world. Also to have a great time and meet many new
people.

 7) What do you enjoy most about Track and Field? The competition and
winning. I like traveling to the
different track meets all over the country and now world. I like meeting
other athletes who are just as
dedicated and determined as I am.

 8) Do you have any interesting stories or incidents about your involvement
with Track and Field? Any
relatives of note in sports? Awards in Other Sports or Academics?
I recieved the Archie Griffin Sportsmanship award and also the Fred Dafler
Sportsmanship award. Also
numerous high school awards such as MVP for track and cross country my
freshman, sophomore, and
Junior year.
 9) Have you done anything different this year in your preparation because of
your membership on the
World Championship Youth Team?
I have a little more intense speed workouts and put more mileage in. I have
also included some strength
training. I have been focusing mainly on this race for the summer.
 10) What tips could you offer other young athletes just beginning in the
sport of Track and Field?
To stick with it if they really enjoy running. To focus, train hard, and be
