Day 2 Highlights

  • 3A - Burns junior Jaela Dinsmore starred with quadruple gold paving the way for her team to upset Catlin Gabel for the girls title: 100 (12.85), 200 (26.34), 400 (58.06) and a leg on the winning 4x1 (50.98).  Big days as well from Regis senior Dylan Wells (100- 11.02; 200- 22.46) and Coquille senior Joshua Frasier (800- 1:55.91; 1500- 4:03.17). Hayley Ney (Catlin Gabel so) doubled back from the 3k win to take the girls 1500 in 4:49.65 and Zack Hevner (Vale jr) continued his run as all-class state leader in the 400 with a 48.99 victory.
  • 2A - Keli Hall (Lakeview jr) picked up three golds, with wins in the girls 200 (26.36), 400 (56.85) and HJ (5-03.00).  Cascade Christian grabbed the top two spots in the boys javelin with near identical throws of 174-10 (Josh Heidegger sr) and 174-09 (Daniel Kinney so).  Culver soph Nevin Lewis cleared 6-07.00 in the HJ.  Double winners included Bonanza seniors Kyle Gomez (23.08/49.88) and John Laidet (51-02 SP/155-02 DT), Blanchet Catholic senior Diana Sanchez (2:21.65/4:53.73) and Oakridge junior Max Long, coming back from Friday's 3k triumph for the 1500 win (4:07.05). 
  • 1A - Damascus Christian soph Sean Lewis turned in a clinic, with quadruple gold in the 100 (11.40), 200 (23.52), 110H (15.85) and 300H (40.21).  Just behind in the medal count was his female counterpart on the Damascus Christian team, senior Emily Holding, with wins in girls 100 (13.29), 200 (26.74), 100H (15.27) and a 2nd in the 300H (47.39).  The winner of that 300H race (47.07), Sherman soph Emily Funkhouser had an equally impressive day, with additional firsts in the 400 (1:00.00) and 4x4 (4:09.96).  Friday 3k winners Jacob Bowdoin (New Hope Christian so) and Rachael Estabrook (Triad jr) doubled back for wins in the boys 800 (1:58.19 MR) and the girls 1500 (5:03.80), respectively.

Day 1 Highlights


  • 3A - Jefferson senior Chrissi Grizzel, though well off her best, still gets out to 147-02 for the jav win. Catlin Gabel sweeps the 3k finals, with junior Ian Wayne winning the boys in 8:55.24 and soph Hayley Ney taking the girls in 10:40.28. Zach Hevner (Vale sr) leads all qualifiers in the boys 100, 200 and 400
  • 2A - John Ellingson (Kennedy sr) tops PV field by 2.5 feet, getting over 15-06.00 for the title. Lakeview frosh Ashley Baldovino nets an impressive 15-sec victory in the girls 3k with her 10:45.53 clocking. Max Long (Oakridge jr), takes the boys 3k in 8:52.24.   • 1A - Damascus Christian all-star senior Emily Holding leads all qualifiers in the girls 100, 200 and 100H, and is #2 qualifier in the 300H. 3k races go to Jacob Bowdoin (New Hope Christian soph) in new 1A state record 8:56.52, and Rachael Estabrook (Triad jr) in 11:12.93. Damascus Christian senior Seth Lindquist takes the TJ (45-03.75) to complete part 1 of a hoped-for horizontal jumps sweep
