It may be time that Braude and Haney change places. Henderson should move up. Burke fits in around 12-15...field for boys FLNE did not seem as strong this year, Crew heading from northeast to Portland looks stronger than those going to San Diego...some of the Southern boys deserve top 30 consideration. The California kids appear to be sorting themselves out but still a large group of contenders. Could be a vintage year or a so-so one for the Californians. Expect good things from the Calif. teams in Portland, less so for the individual at San Diego, although they will have the close-to-home edge.","date_added":"Dec 1st 2013, 8:40am","nest":0,"liked":false,"member":[],"can_delete":false,"item_id":196366,"item_type":"news","pb_image":"i\/no_avatar.png","pb_title":"Bsarno1","pb_url":"profile.php?member_id=45736","pb_url_dns":"https:\/\/Bsarno1.runnerspace.com\/","pb_wally_id":"1116260"},"922664":{"pb_id":"4588","pb_type":"members","likes":"1","parent_id":"0","pid":"922664","comment_id":"922664","member_id":"4588","comment":"

\nLove this post, very informative. You made a great case for both of those guys. Correa is definitely on my radar more than Webb because of his early season win over De La Rosa, which sort of blew up my preseason ranking! I'm looking forward to seeing how these championship meets in California go, and beyond with post-season meets. California is very deep and you're right that Haney and Corcoran appear to be a slight cut above. The honorable mentions list probably doesn't get as much thought as I should give it. There are a lot of state champions in that HM list and I try to recognize them even if I can't quite fit them into the top 30. The cut off point of being named or unnamed in the HM list is always going to be difficult and leave someone feeling left out. If Correa and Webb finish strong and beat those guys in these remaining meets ... I won't miss them.

\nI find it interesting that Steve Correa of San Pedro and Caleb Webb of Big Bear didn't make the honorable mention list given the fact that they have favorable records against the others listed in the HM section they have competed against.
\n
\nSteve Correa's Record against the following athletes (wins for Steve - wins for other guy)
\n
\nPhillip Rocha 3 - 0
\nEstevan De La Rosa 2 - 1
\nSteven Fahy 1 - 0
\nSydney Gidabuday 1 - 1
\nBlake Haney 1 - 1
\nDavid Luna 1 - 1
\nTal Braude 0 - 1
\nAustin Tamagno 0 - 2
\nGarrett Corcoran 0 - 2
\n
\nNote that Correa's performance at Laguna Hills was faster than many of the historical greats on that slow course, including Ammar Moussa - who ran on that course 3 times.
\n
\nWebb's Record against the following athletes (wins for Webb - wins for other guy)
\n
\nSteven Fahy 1 - 0
\nBlake Haney 1 - 1
\nDavid Luna 1 - 1
\nEstevan De La Rosa 1 - 1
\nPhillip Rocha 1 - 1
\nAustin Tamagno 1 - 1
\nTal Braude 0 - 1
\nSydney Gidabuday 0 - 2
\nGarrett Corcoran 0 - 2
\n
\nHere is another way of making the comparison
\n
\nBlake Haney (1st, 1st, 14th)
\nGarrett Corcoran (3rd, --, 2nd) - (Woodbridge, Stanford, Mt. Sac)
\nTal Braude (--, 9th, 1st)
\nPhillip Rocha (14th, 7th, 8th)
\nSteven Fahy (--, 3rd, 11th)
\nDavid Luna (8th,--, 4th)
\nEstevan De La Rosa (2nd, 4th, 100+)
\nAustin Tamagno (6th, --, 3rd)
\nSydney Gidabuday (4th,--, 9th)
\nBlair Hurlock (--,5th,6th)
\nSteve Correa (7th, --, 7th)
\nWebb (5th , --, 10th)<\/strong>
\n
\n
\nI believe Haney and Corcoran look to be a bit stronger than the rest, but after that they all look very similar. To me it feels like everyone in CA is very invincible and it just depends on who is having the better day. Very few of these guys have perfect records against most the people on this list.

\n
\nSome of the kids are definitely going to take it very seriously. Others aren't.
\n
\nThe Central Catholic boys, for example, are planning to work out hard this week because they are hoping they get an At-Large bid to NXN and want to do well at NXN, and believe that a hard workout that week would be more beneficial than saving themselves for one last hurrah at BorderClash. Same might be true for kids focused on qualifying for Foot Locker or already qualified for NXN. And then others who are focused on FLW or NXN are still going to run hard here.
\n
\nQuote from Doug's interview: "We have to act like we're going to be in. We've got six guys in the BorderClash so I asked them, 'Do you want an easy week and go after BorderClash or do you want to run a hard workout late in the week?' And they said 'Let's train like we're in and be ready to run nationals.'"
\n
\n
\nThat being said, I'm sure that most will run hard<\/strong>, but there will probably be some that have other priorities and might not run their best. That doesn't necessarily mean the best won't come out on top, just that there will probably be more kids than usual that you'd expect to do better that simply don't finish where you'd think they would.
\n
\nThe relevant question is, of the nationally elite athletes, who gives it their all and who has other priorities this week? I wouldn't bet against Maton\/Hardy\/Dressel (and probably the NC athletes) all running hard this week, since they didn't run NXN-NW and\/or are coming from Spokane for the race, but who knows for sure.","date_added":"Nov 22nd 2013, 6:21pm","nest":0,"liked":false,"member":[],"can_delete":false,"item_id":196366,"item_type":"news","pb_image":"\/\/www.runnerspace.com\/forum\/uploads\/av-43715.jpg","pb_title":"watchout","pb_url":"profile.php?member_id=43715","pb_url_dns":"https:\/\/www.runnerspace.com\/profile.php?member_id=43715","pb_wally_id":"1073498"},"919441":{"pb_id":"50627","pb_type":"members","likes":"1","parent_id":"0","pid":"919441","comment_id":"919441","member_id":"50627","comment":"

I think it will be very telling to see how Maton does against Tanner and Hardy, Hardy, who basically was part of a 3-man win last year after the top WA guys all came in together.","date_added":"Nov 22nd 2013, 6:10pm","nest":1,"liked":false,"member":[],"can_delete":false,"item_id":196366,"item_type":"news","pb_image":"\/\/www.runnerspace.com\/forum\/uploads\/av-6.jpg","pb_title":"Kevin","pb_url":"profile.php?member_id=6","pb_url_dns":"https:\/\/kevin.runnerspace.com\/","pb_wally_id":"25"},"919235":{"pb_id":"52909","pb_type":"members","likes":"0","parent_id":"0","pid":"919235","comment_id":"919235","member_id":"52909","comment":"Perhaps Alan Yoho should be in these ranking next time around...","date_added":"Nov 22nd 2013, 6:49am","nest":0,"liked":false,"member":[],"can_delete":false,"item_id":196366,"item_type":"news","pb_image":"https:\/\/fbcdn-profile-a.akamaihd.net\/hprofile-ak-ash1\/t5\/369887_100001273464049_1411427877_q.jpg","pb_title":"A-Yoho","pb_url":"profile.php?member_id=52909","pb_url_dns":"https:\/\/www.runnerspace.com\/profile.php?member_id=52909","pb_wally_id":"1330770"},"919051":{"pb_id":"44418","pb_type":"members","likes":"0","parent_id":"0","pid":"919051","comment_id":"919051","member_id":"44418","comment":"thanks!","date_added":"Nov 21st 2013, 10:02pm","nest":0,"liked":false,"member":{"wally_id":"1082747","email_settings":"4294967295","email":"dbind4@aol.com","address":"DougB","gender":"u","member_id":"44418","member_name":"DougB","avatar_location":"av-44418.jpg","avatar_type":"upload","avatar":"\/\/www.runnerspace.com\/forum\/uploads\/av-44418.jpg"},"can_delete":false,"item_id":196366,"item_type":"news","pb_image":"\/\/www.runnerspace.com\/forum\/uploads\/av-44418.jpg","pb_title":"DougB","pb_url":"profile.php?member_id=44418","pb_url_dns":"https:\/\/DougB.runnerspace.com\/","pb_wally_id":"1082747"},"919039":{"pb_id":"45736","pb_type":"members","likes":"0","parent_id":"0","pid":"919039","comment_id":"919039","member_id":"45736","comment":"Need a quick fix..Josiah Hanko twice..no big deal...consider how daunting your task is. \nI do it mostly on feel ... who beat who by how much in big races, recent results matter more than older results, a bad day may cost you a few spots but it doesn't wipe out a body of work. State championship races matter more than regular season meets. I try to take in as much info as I can and sort them, or adjust them from one set to the next. I can tell you that I frequently get stuck trying to shoe-horn the final 5 guys into the last 2 spots and it's tough.

\nMt. SAC was big for Tal Braude, who ran the fastest time of the meet. That one meet probably impacts his ranking more than anybody else, and of course it was the reason Haney fell back to No. 2.","date_added":"Nov 21st 2013, 8:13pm","nest":0,"liked":false,"member":{"wally_id":"1082747","email_settings":"4294967295","email":"dbind4@aol.com","address":"DougB","gender":"u","member_id":"44418","member_name":"DougB","avatar_location":"av-44418.jpg","avatar_type":"upload","avatar":"\/\/www.runnerspace.com\/forum\/uploads\/av-44418.jpg"},"can_delete":false,"item_id":196366,"item_type":"news","pb_image":"\/\/www.runnerspace.com\/forum\/uploads\/av-44418.jpg","pb_title":"DougB","pb_url":"profile.php?member_id=44418","pb_url_dns":"https:\/\/DougB.runnerspace.com\/","pb_wally_id":"1082747"},"918985":{"pb_id":"50627","pb_type":"members","likes":"0","parent_id":"0","pid":"918985","comment_id":"918985","member_id":"50627","comment":"Doug, do you use a speed ranking of some sort to generate these lists?
