Wayde van Niekerk's Recovery from ACL Surgery on Pace for July Return

Sport24 reports Wayde van Niekerk is on pace for a July return from his ACL injury and surgery last fall.

Van Niekerk expects another six more weeks of physical therapy. That leaves a likely return to the track in July. However, the exact form that return takes is still unknown. Depending on his fitness level, van Niekerk could begin racing in July or wait until August to make his season debut.

The world and Olympic champion and world record holder at 400 meters from South Africa hurt his knee last fall in a celebrity rugby match. He had surgery in the U.S. and the doctor managing his recovery is based in Doha, Qatar.
