Christian Coleman and Elaine Thompson Withdraw from Shanghai Diamond League Meeting with Physical Issue

Diamond League officials announced Sunday that both Christian Coleman and Elaine Thompson have withdrawn from the Shanghai Diamond League meeting. Both athletes cited a physical issue as the reason for withdrawal.

Shanghai was going to be Coleman's Diamond League debut. He had been scheduled to race the 100 meters. Coleman is coming off a successful indoor campaign that saw him shatter the world record in the 60 meters and capture his first world title, winning the 60 meters in Birmingham, United Kingdom.

Thompson was scheduled to race the 200. She was double Olympic champion for Jamaica in the 100 and 200 in 2016. However, she failed to reach the podium in the 100 at last year's IAAF World Outdoor Championships. She did not compete in the 200 at the World Championships.
