Rhode Island State XC Meet Recap 2018Published by
Bishop Hendricken Squeezes Past La Salle, 30-35 By Mary Albl of DyeStat It was a familiar story line Sunday at Ponaganset High -- the Bishop Hendricken and La Salle Academy boys cross country teams neck and neck vying for a state championship. This time, led by senior Jack McMahon and his second-place finish (15:40.5), Bishop Hendricken edged out La Salle 30-35 to claim the Rhode Island title. “It means a lot to win [the team title],” McMahon told the providencejournal.com. “We hoped it would have been in a little better fashion but a win’s a win. It was a good team win.” Bishop Hendricken, ranked No. 4 in the latest DyeStat team rankings, placed five runners in the top nine. La Salle, No. 17, was led by senior Joseph dosReis, who crossed the 5,000-meter course in a winning time of 15:38. In the girls race, Portsmouth senior Elizabeth Sullivan won the race in 18:40.79, guiding her team to a state title. Portsmouth tallied 55 points and had three runners in the top six. Next up will be the New England Championships in Manchester, N.H. on Saturday, Nov. 10. Team Champions Boys -- Bishop Hendricken 30 points Girls -- Portsmouth 55 points |
