CLOVIS, Calif. – Only two juniors in California prep history have surpassed 200 feet in the discus throw.

At the rapid rate McKay Madsen continues to improve, the Clovis North High standout might eclipse the barrier before the end of the month, if not certainly before the postseason.

Madsen added nearly five feet to his lifetime-best mark Friday at the Gateway to Track and Field Invitational, improving on his state lead with a 196-2 (59.79m) effort at Buchanan High’s Veterans Memorial Stadium.
