Ostrander, Thomet finish what they started in Alaska By Doug Binder, DyeStat editor In Anchorage Saturday, the two dominant athletes of the Alaskan high school cross country season won Class 4A state titles. Levi Thomet of Kodiak ran 15:11 on the Bartlett Trails course to win the boys championship race by 56 seconds. According to the Anchorage Daily News, Thomet actually caught and passed the lead bicycle going up a hill. The junior is already drawing comparisions to all-time state greats Doug Herron, Don Clary and Trevor Dunbar. Allie Ostrander of Kenai was no less impressive, running 17:50 to win her race by 68 seconds. West Anchorage took the Class 4A girls championship and West Valley (Fairbanks) won the boys title. In the 3A/2A/1A races, Briahna Gerlach of Glenallen won the individual title in 18:35; Daniel Servanti of Grace Christian won the boys race in 16:21 and led his team to the title. Grace also won the girls title by placing 7 through 11. |
