Just watched the girls race from Terre Haute on the really good ustream video done by Terre Haute North.


Kelcy Welch of Carmel took command at about 4K and was able to get some distance on McKenzie Caldwell of Columbus North. Although Welch gave a up a little ground over the last stretch by veering off the straightest line, she still got the finish first in 17:52. Caldwell was 2-3 seconds back.

Caldwell staked out a lead and had 10 meters on everyone at the first K and then Sierra Moore (sp?) took the lead at a mile. She actually built a lead heading into the mid-point but Caldwell and Welch caught her and passed her.

Welch used a slight uphill around 4K to get the distance on Caldwell on a windy day.

"I figured I'd have to pick it up at some point," Welch said after the race. "I kind of like hills. ... You can tell by the way people are cheering for you if you need to pick it up ... I was trying to leave it all out on the course."

Carmel looked like the team champion as well, but that's unofficial.
