State Meet Highlights

Georgia splits its state championships by gender. The girls championship goes a week before the boys and the meets are held in different locations.

Top Performances:

- Freshman sensation Candace Hill of Rockland County stole the show with her Class 6A sprint double. She ran US#2 in the 100 in 11.44 and US#1 in the 200 with 23.21. Both were wind-legal and mark Hill as one of the best freshman sprinters of all-time.

- Another HUGE state meet came from Tiffany Flynn of Miller Grove in Class 5A. Flynn jumped a wind-legal US#1 41-11 to win the triple jump, won the long jump with 18-8.75 and the 100 hurdles with 13.96 (2.7 wind).

- Christian Coleman from Our Lady of Mercy was the dominant sprinter at the boys meet, flashing US#5 10.38 and US#11 21.10 in the Class 1A Private Schools classification.

- Jeremy McDuffie of Shiloh was a standout in the Class 6A meet. The junior won the 110 hurdles in US#3 13.83, won the 300 hurdles in 37.57 and won the triple jump with US#11 49-0.

- Kenan Farmer of Walton was the top distance runner in the state championships, running US#23 4:11.47 to win the 1600 and also taking the 6A 3200 in 9:15.90.

- Jaylan Reid of Hillgrove threw US#8 63-4.75 to win the shot put.

Top Teams: Westlake withstood a challenge from McEachern but retained the Class 6A championship (61-52). Miller Grove (60) edged Pope (59) and Northside WR (56) in a competitive 5A team race. Marist ran off with the 4A crown with 96 points.

The Shiloh boys were the dominat 6A team, piling up 80 points to almost double second-place Brookwood. Mt. Zion Jonesboro won the 5A title and Marist edged Carrollton (67-66) in Class 4A.

Top Competition: The girls relay battles between Westlake and McEachern were also part of a bigger tug-of-war for the team championship. McEachern won some of those head to head matchups, including an epic 46.06 to 46.12 in the 4x100 relay, but was unable to unseat Westlake as the No. 1 program in the state.

Record-breakers: Hiill set championship meet records in both the 100 and 200 and may have used this state meet as a launching pad for future stardom.
