Stumbaugh scores 48 points in 7A meet

State Meet Highlights

The Arkansas state championships have a whopping seven classifications and are spread throughout the state. The biggest news came from Payton Stumbaugh, who starred in the 7A meet and broke the all-time state record in the 100 hurdles. The Arkansas Meet of Champions is this weekend.

Top Performances:

- Payton Stumbaugh of Har-Ber was the standout of the meet, collecting four individual titles and a second in five events (48 points). She won the 100 in 11.93, the 200 in 24.63w, the 100 hurdles in 13.92, the 300 hurdles in 43.43 and was second in the long jump with 18-8.

- Brandon Workman of Rogers swept the horizontal jumps, with US#30 23-5 in the long jump and US#16 48-7 in the triple jump.

- Logan Morton of Bentonville was Stumbaugh's major competition and she pulled out the long jump by a single inch, with 18-9. She was second to Stumbaugh in the 300 hurdles and fourth in the 10 hurdles. Morton also won the triple jump.

- Lexi and Tori Weeks of Cabot went 1-2 in the pole vault as expected, collecting 18 points for their team. Lexi's 13-6.50 wasn't her highest of the season but it was a 7A meet record.

Top Teams:

Bentonville won its third consecutive 7A girls title and also added a boys championship.

Arkansas High of Texarkana was dominant at the 6A meet, collecting boys and girls championships. (This spot on the map is a true track and field hotbed ... consider that Texas High of Texarkana, Texas won the boys Texas 4A boys state title). The Magnolia girls and Vilonia boys were triumphant in the 5A classification.

Top Competition: Superiority in the boys 7A 100 was cut razor thin with Tre James of Little Rock Central beating Anthony Louden of North Little Rock by thousandths of a second after both were timed in 10.74. Louden got a measure of payback in the 200, which he won in 21.70 to James' 21.85.

Record-breakers: Stumbaugh's 13.92 clocking the 100 hurdles is an all-time Arkansas best. She has a chance to improve upon that at the Meet of Champions.
