Nike Elite Camp gathers top XC talent
By Doug Binder, DyeStat Editor The fifth Nike Elite Camp opened Wednesday on the campus of the company headquarters in Beaverton, Ore. Eighteen of the top high school cross country runners in the U.S. -- 10 boys, 8 girls -- are in the camp. The camp includes interaction and instruction with Nike athletes and coaches and a chance for the campers to build friendships with their "elite" peers. Among the eight girls invited to this year's camp is Stephanie Jenks from Linn-Mar High School in Iowa. A week ago she competed at the IAAF World Juniors in Eugene and after the camp she will travel to China for the Youth Olympic Games, where she will compete in the triathlon. She is joined by Hannah DeBalsi CT, Hannah Long MO, Lucy Biles UT, Fiona O'Keeffe CA, Ella Donaghu OR, Lauren Gregory CO and Allie Ostrander AK. The boys team includes U.S. junior national team member Grant Fisher from Michigan. The others are Mike Brannigan NY, Alex Ostberg CT, Thomas Pollard IA, Conner Mantz UT, Elijah Armstrong ID, Austin Tamagno CA, Matthew Maton OR, John Dressel WA and Tanner Anderson WA. Next week, Nike will conduct its first Elite camp for sprinters. The names for that event have not yet been released. More news |
