By Doug Binder, DyeStat Editor

The best high school distance runners have experienced the Nike treatment over the past few years, so why not the sprinters?

On Wednesday, 13 of the top high school track athletes in the country flew into Portland for the first Nike Elite Camp for sprinters. The four-day session will include workouts, activities, informative talks from some of the biggest names in the business, and valuable networking. Just as an example, Wednesday's dinner guest was two-time Olympic 100 meters champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce of Jamaica.

Among the seven girls invited to this year's camp is World Juniors gold medalist (4x400 relay) Teahna Daniels of First Academy in Florida. Additional campers from the Sunshine State include Krystal Sparling and Diamond Spaulding from St. Thomas Aquinas. Hurdlers Alexis Duncan (DeSoto HS in Texas), Reonna Collier (Piedmont Hills in California), Mecca McGlaston (Dublin, Calif.) and NBNO 400 champion Zola Golden (Arlington, N.Y.).

The six boys at camp are NBNO champion and World Juniors 4x400 relay gold medalist Josephus Lyles (T.C. Williams HS in Virginia), Izaiah Brown (Amsterdam, N.Y.), Richard Rose (Boys and Girls, Brookly, NYC), Jeremy McDuffie (Snellville, Ga.), Darryl Haraway (DeMatha, Md.) and Michael Norman (Vista Murrieta, Calif.).
