Buchanan edges San Lorenzo Valley by 1 point

The girls Team Sweepstakes was a bit of a shocker as Buchanan nosed out US#6 San Lorenzo Valley by one point, 116-117, with the result not known until the computers crunched the numbers.   The announcer's stretch call had SLV winning over a big bunch fighting for second.  It turned out that Buchanan's 4-5 runners got in 10 places ahead of SLV's fifth.  US#19 Peninsula got third with 129 points.  SLV had beaten Buchanan decisively 28-76 a week ago at the Crystal Springs Inv.  SLV Coach Rob Collins said his team unexplainedly went out too slow in the flat first mile and could not recover on the hills.  Individually, Montgomery sr Sara Bei 17:19 was an impressive winner, followed by Amber Steen, Newport Harbor 17:47 and surprising freshman Lisa Pasciuto, Murrieta Valley 17:48.
