The Prefontaine Classic has seen some historic high school performances, from Alan Webb's record-breaking mile in 2001 to Lukas Verzbicas' record 2-mile in 2011.

But  not until this Friday have elite high school-only races been part of the Pre Classic at Hayward Field.

The inaugural miles and 200s will feature some of the top high school athletes in country.

In a year where fantastic miles and 200s have already been recorded, these races could have a big impact on the season's rankings.

Boys 200m:
Ryan Clark of Banneker GA established himself as the top sprinter in the country during the indoor season has done nothing but bolster that claim in the spring. At the Georgia state championships he laid down a 10.26/20.79 double that set him for a big postseason.   Clark will be tested by four sprinters from Texas and two more from Florida that have also concluded their state championship meets. Rai Benjamin from Mt. Vernon NY is still in the build-up to his state meet meet and the versatile UCLA recruit is US#1 in the 400-meter hurdles and US#7 in the 200.

Boys Mile:
Nine states are represented in an elite boys mile field that includes Nike Elite Camp veterans Elijah Armstrong and Mike Brannigan. This race is shaping up as a big opportunity for someone other than Matthew Maton or Grant Fisher to step up and seize the spotlight in the mile. Carlos Villareal of Arizona has run 4:03.97 for 1,600 and a handful of other guys could be capable of crashing 4:05.
