Fisher aiming for sub-four in St. Louis

The Nike Festival of Miles has a late addition to its elite men's field on Thursday -- Grant Fisher.
The Grand Blanc MI star ran 4:00.28 for 1,600 meters on a drizzly day at the Michigan state championships on Saturday.
Fisher ran without anyone to push him in that race. This time, he'll be able to run against older runners in the St. Louis Track Club Elite Men's Mile field that includes Jordan McNamara and Jack Bolas among others. The race is Thursday, June 4 at 8:50 p.m. at Saint Louis University High School.
If he can do it, Fisher would join Matthew Maton for a place in history. Never before have two high school runners gone sub-four for the mile in the same year. Maton became the sixth ever at the Oregon Twilight Meet on May 8.
Fisher, who is committed to Stanford in the fall, appeared to be on his way to a sub-four mile indoors at the New Balance Nationals Indoor Championships at The Armory in New York but he stepped on the rail with 80 meters left in the race.
A Maton-Fisher race at the adidas Dream Mile in New York on June is unlikely because Maton has been nursing a sore Achilles' tendon in his foot.
