New Balance Nationals Outdoor: The Big Board

Storylines - GIRLS PREVIEW | BOYS PREVIEW

 

Friday: Much of the day  is devoted emerging elite athletes but the day will conclude with championship finals for the 5,000 meters. Ryen Frazier of Ravencroft (Raleigh, N.C.) will begin her weekend with that race and may double or triple this weekend depending on how she feels. The girls javelin championship is also today and will feature defending champion Tairyn Montgomery and four of the top five throwers in the country this spring. National record holder Madison Wiltrout is injured and will not compete.

 

Saturday: Ryan Clark, the national leader in the 100 meters at 10.18 seconds, will try to win his second straightaway championship. Clark won the New Balance Nationals Indoor title in the 60 meters in March. There are additioinal championship finals in the 4x200 relays, the 2,000-meter steeplechases, the heptathlon, the high hurdles (boys and girls), girls discus, girls triple jump,boys triple jump, boys shot put, boys hammer and boys javelin.

 

Sunday: It's going to be a full day of finals. Saline MI will be looking for a second chance at a title in the DMR after coming oh-so close in the 4x800 on Saturday. Union Catholic will try to close the meet on a high note with teams favored to do well in the 4x400. Kate Hall and Courtney Corrin, co-national leaders in the girls long jump at 20-11 will go head to head in a much anticipated duel.
