Georgia State Championships 2015 Recap - DyeStat

Candace Hill leads a fast state in GA

 

Crossover star Candace Hill, the 2015 Athlete of the Year, was merely hitting mid-season stride at the Georgia girls state championships on May 9. Bria Matthews jumped US#1 in the triple jump (pictured above). The boys competed a week later, on the 16th of May, when Ryan Clark of Banneker made headlines with his own sprint double and also helped his team to US#1 in the 4x400 relay. This state was loaded with sprint talent and it should be no different next year.

 

Highlights

- Candace Hill of Rockdale County lowered her own state meet records with an 11.34/23.05 double that was among her earliest of headlining performances of the 2015 campaign.

- Lindsay Billings of Northview won a 6A distance double, running 4:50.83 for 1,600 and 10:27.71 in the 3,200 meters.

- Aliyah Abrams of Grayson had a notable meet, winning the 6A 400 (US#7 53.10) with a meet record, placing second to Hill in the 200 (23.72), and also running on the winning 4x100 relay (46.58) and second-place 4x400 (3:47.04).

- Freshman Alexis Jones of Campbell ran 42.12 to win the 6A 300 hurdles. Another freshman, Kennedy Simon of Westlake, was second in 42.85.

- Bria Matthews of 5A Forest Park hit a US#1 mark in the triple jump with 43-5.50 to destroy the all-time Georgia record. Matthews' jump was also No. 7 all-time. She also jumped 19-3 for second in the long jump.

- Junior Alexis Farley of Starr's Mill won the 5A long jump with 19-5.50 after placing second Matthews in the triple jump (39-7.75).

- Junior Cassondra Hall of Warner Robins won the 5A sprint double with 11.69 and 23.91.

- North Springs broke the all-time Georgia record in the 4x400 relay, taking the 5A crown with 3:44.42. They won by nine seconds.They also won the 4x100 with 47.07 and won the 5A team title with 52 points.

- Freshman Daloria Boone of Baldwin won the 4A long jump with 19-10 and the 100 meters in 11.71. She finished in a dead heat with teammate sophomore Zykeria Williams in the 200, as both timed 24.21. (Williams got the photo finish nod, 24.205 to 24.208). She also ran on the 4x100 relay that ran US#8 45.91 for a meet record.

- Noelle Parker of 4A Whitewater won the shot put with 46-9.50 to break the meet record.

- Morgan Ilse of Marist ran 10:25.39 to break the 4A meet record in the 3,200 meters. She also won the 1,600 in 4:56.41. Catie Faust came up big for Marist by doubling in the 400 (55.22) and 800 (2:11.19). Marist beat Baldwin 81.50 to 70 for the 4A title.

- Chinyere Njoku of Fayette County won the 4A 100 hurdles in 13.84.

- Sophomore Carson Dingler of First Presbyterian Day jumped 12-0 in the pole vault at the 1A Private state meet.

- Taylor DeLoach of St. Vincent's won the 2A long jump with 19-11.50 to break the meet record by more than a foot. She was also a double winner in the sprints with 11.80 and 24.39.

 

Boys Meet

- Isaiah Rogers of Campbell won the 6A shot put with 63-8.50.

- Miles Yapp of Brookwood won a competitive 6A 1,600 with 4:15.10. He also won the 3,200 in 9:20.84.

- Justin Long of Parkview won the 6A 400 meters in 47.82 seconds.

- Lawrence Crawford of Rockdale County won the 6A 100 in 10.62 and also the 200 in 21.22 -- matching the achievement of female counterpart Candace Hill.

- Jeramey Hampton of North Gwinnett won the 6A 800 meters in 1:53.57 and also placed second in the 400 with 48.08.

- Robert Dunning of 6A Kennesaw Mountain doubled in the high jump (6-8) and the 300 hurdles (37.47).

- Lasheon Strozier of Lithia Springs won the 5A triple jump with 49-4.

- Logan Poteet of Kell won the 5A 1,600 with 4:12.01 and the 3,200 with 9:05.50.

- Ryan Clark of Banneker ran 10.29/21.11 in the prelims to set up 10.26/20.79 winning times in the final. He broke the state meet records in both events. Then he helped Banneker run the US leader and meet record in the 4x400 with 3:12.03.

- Breshawrd Cooper of Cedar Shoals won the 5A 400 meters in 47.34 and was second to Clark in the 200 with 21.38.

- Rockdale County won the 6A boys title with 53 points; Southwest DeKalb won the 5A team title with 58 points.

- Chris McBride from Redan won the 4A boys long jump with 23-11.

- Sandy Creek's boys won the 4A 4x100 title with 41.23. They also won the team title.

- Junior Devin Dixon from Eagle's Landing won the 4A 800 meters with 1:52.71. 

- Junior Daniel Roberts from Hampton scored a nice hurdles double in 4A with 13.81 (13.68 pre)/US#15 36.97. He also won the triple jump with 47-6.50. He plays quarterback on the football team and his state titles are the first for Hampton HS.

- Quintaveon Poole from 3A Washington County false started at his state meet after running a 46.75 in the prelims. He ran 21.32 to win the 200 meters.
