Ostrander, Thomet leave lasting marks

Alaska was a state dominated by two athletes from cross country through outdoor track. Allie Ostrander of Kenai Central set records that may last many years in Alaska and Levi Thomet of Kodiak put together a record that compares pretty favorably to Trevor Dunbar. It warmed up into the upper 70s with bright sun and it affected some of the competitors. "It was a little bit of a scorcher," Ostrander said.

Highlights:

- Allie Ostrander won the 800 meters in 2:11.30, the 1,600 in 4:48.32 (all-time state best) and the 3,200 in 10:09.73 -- a triple worthy of her staggering impact on the state. After the 3,200 she invited every girl in the race to join her on the victory lap.

- Naomi Welling of Thunder Mountain broke the all-time state record in the 300 hurdles with 44.21 and also won the 100 hurdles in 15.25.

- Levi Thomet took care of business in the 4A meet with victories in the 800 (1:57.31), the 1,600 (4:12.17) and the 3,200 (9:09.42).

- Charles Sudduth from West Valley was the dominant sprinter in the 4A meet, with wins in the 100 meters (10.91) and the 200 (22.24).

- Senior Michael Todd of Anchorage Christian tripled in the 3A/2A/1A meet with victories in the 400 (49.76), the 800 (2:02,47) and the 1,600 (4:21.90). He led his team to the championship.

- Junior Tanner Ealum of Anchorage Christian became the all-time state leader in the 200 and 400. She won the 3A/2A/1A titles in the 100 (12.12), the 200 (24.74) and the 400 (54.87). She won the 400-meter title by almost seven seconds. Ealum led her team to the girls state title.

- Briahna Gerlach of Glenallen, a sophomore, won the 3A/2A/1A titles in the 800 (2:17.00), the 1,600 (5:00.76) and the 3,200 (11:10.59).

- Izabelle Ith, a sophomore from Petersburg, won four events in the 3A/2A/1A meet: the 100 hurdles (15.47), the 300 hurdles (47.85), the long jump (17-0.50) and the triple jump (36-1.50).
