Candace Hill didn’t just impress those in attendance at the World Youth Championships – or those following the event from home.

She also caught the eye of Ashton Eaton, Olympic decathlon champion and world record holder.

Eaton has selected five athletes from the World Youth meet to join him in Oregon next March for a three-day camp. The five athletes chosen come from all over the world and will be special guests at the IAA F World Indoor Championships in Portland. From there, they will go to Eugene (where Eaton lives) for an up-close look at the World’s Greatest Athlete.

Hill, who won the Gatorade Girls Athlete of the Year Award after becoming the first high school girl to go under 11 seconds in the 100 meter dash, followed that up with double golds in the 100 meters and 200 meters at World Youth.

On the selection of Hill as one of the five athletes, Eaton said: “Simply raw talent and youthful zeal. Senior athletes need to experience this more.”

The other four athletes chosen by Eaton, all of them World Youth gold medalists, are:

Maribel Vanessa Caicedo (Ecuador) 100-meter hurdles:

Eaton: "Another form-chart destroyer. She is a display of confidence. She has been putting in the work with her eye on the prize for a long time. She now has her sights on bigger things. It’s going to be exciting to watch her try to achieve them."

Niklas Kaul (Germany) decathlon:

Eaton: "An overall impressive performance in all 11 events (Kaul took silver in the individual javelin as well as gold in the decathlon). What caught my attention was his response in performance after his hurdle setback. To retain focus and move on to achieve; that is senior decathlon mentality."

Salwa Eid Naser (Burundi) 400 meters:

"Even though she was getting overtaken by competitors on both sides, she stuck to her race to win it in the final 75 metres. Her training foresight is above average for her age. She is a display of overall maturity."

Werner Visser (South Afica) discus:

"It’s surprisingly difficult to perform when it counts in a technical event."
