Century boys end Bismarck's reign

 

State Meet Highlights

 
The North Dakota A and B Championships take place at the Bismarck Community Bowl and there were strong performances in both divisions.  



Top Performances:

 
- Jacob Richter of Century won the Class A 400 meters in 48.81 and also took the 800 in 1:57.13.

 
- Sam Clausnitzer, a junior from Bismarck won the Class A 1,600 (4:18.68) and 3,200 (9:20.59).


- Akealy Moton, a sophomore from West Fargo, threw US#21 47-2 to win the Class A shot put. She also won the javelin with US#28 142-8 was also fourth in the discus.


- Mattie Shirley-Fairbanks, an eighth grader, ran off with the Class A titles in the 1,600 (4:56.89) and 3,200 (10:38.24).

 

- Afure Adah of Fargo Shanley won the Class A 100 in 12.40 and also swept the hurdles with 15.07 in the 100 meters and 44.05 in the 300.


- Ashley Rone of Red River won the 200 (24.94) and the 400 (56.65) and also took second in the 100 (12.42) in the Class A Championships.


- Jon Tharaldson, a senior at Bismarck, repeated as shot put champion with US#12 62-11 and also won the discus with 167-6.

 

- Dakota Wood, senior from Hazen, won the Class B girls 300 hurdles in 44.10, the 110 hurdles in 14.71 and placed second in the 100 (12.37) and 200 (25.95). Hazen also won the 4x100 and 4x200 on the way to the team title.

 

- Freshman Beatrice Kjelland of Park River/FL/AE swept the 100 meters (12.26) and the 200 (25.47) in the Class B meet.

 

- Sophomore Peyton Froleck of Milnor/Wyndmere won the 800 meters (2:16.03), the 1,600 (5:08.40) and the 3,200 (11:16.57) in Class B.

 

- Kellemon Hinton from Ellendale won the Class B long jump with 22-8.50 and edged high jump champion Nolan Hovland of Rugby in the triple jump, 46-5.50 to 46-5.25.


- Elliott Stone from Shiloh Christian swept the Class B distance titles with 4:18.05 in the 1,600 meters and 9:24.93 in the 3,200.



Top Teams:


The Century girls repeated at Class A champions (119 points) and they were joined this time by the boys, who also won with (146) points to knock off Bismarck (131) and end the Demons’ 11-year streak.


In Class B, New Town’s boys and Hazen’s girls won the team titles.



Top Competition: The shot put is strong in North Dakota and that was evident at the state meet. Jon Tharaldson of Bismarck threw US#12 62-11 to win the event again and he’s headed to the University of Minnesota. The girls competition landed three girls in the US top 100 – Akealy Moton of West Fargo with 47-2, Maggie Schwartzkopf of Century with US#90 44-3.50 and Keely Walker of West Fargo with 44-2.50.
