Kate Hall leaves lasting marks in Maine

State Meet Highlights

In Maine, high school track and field is a bit more low-key than other places. But there was nothing low key about Kate Hall, who used her final state meet as a springboard to an historic outing at New Balance Nationals and a new national record in the girls long jump.

Top Performances:

- Kate Hall, senior from Lake Region, confirmed her status as a one-of-a-kind talent in Maine. She smashed her own Class B state meet records in the 100 (11.69nwi) and long jump (20-4.75nwi), and also won the 200 with 24.82. She won the long jump title by more than three feet. She would have placed third in the Class B boys long jump with that mark.

- Freshman Alexandra Hart of Thornton broke the Class A meet record in the 400 meters (56.87), and also won the 200 meters (25.95) and placed second in the 100 (13.00).

- Jack Bouchard, a junior at York, threw 200-6 to break the Class B meet record in the javelin. That was good for US#15.

- Isaiah Harris, a senior from Lewiston, won the Class A 200 (22.25), 800 (1:55.42) and the 1,600 (4:18.92). See below for his dual with Cheverus’ Jake Dixon. Harris also led Lewiston to the 4x400 title (3:28.24).

- Dan Giuliani, a junior from South Portland, broke the Class A record in the shot put with a big toss of 62-8.25 – winning the competition by more than 11 feet. He was second in the discus with 159-6.

- Drew Gamage from Oak Hill broke a 22-year-old meet record in Class C with 45-9.50 in the triple jump.

- Tiara Tardy, a sophomore Mattanawcook, broke the Class C record in the 800 meters with 2:16.34. She also won the 3,200 with 11:39.10.

Top TeamsThe Lewiston boys won the Class A boys title with 71 points; the Thornton Academy girls repeated as victors with 80. In Class B, Waterville’s girls repeated (118.25) and the York boys (96) got it done. In Class C, the Orono girls (132.75), led by Lauren Stoops’ three individual wins and a 4x400 triumph, and the Orono boys (88) also won.

Top Competition: For the second straight year, the matchup in the Class A 200 meters was an interesting one. Isaiah Harris of Lewiston was the 800 champion with 1:55.42 and Jake Dixon of Cheverus was the 400 champion in a meet record time of 48.45. So both seniors were determined to show their top-end speed in the 200. And it was Harris taking it for the second year in a row, 22.25 to 22.41.
