Duncan wins 3 events to lead Cambridge R&L

 

State Meet Highlights

 
The Massachusetts state championships (MIAA All State) took place at Fitchburg State. Massachusetts, steeped in tradition, continues to run the full mile and 2-mile in its championships.



Top Performances:

 
- Junior Brianna Duncan of Cambridge Ringe & Latin was a bigger winner at this meet, breaking the listed meet record in the 100 meters with 11.97 seconds. She also won the long jump with 18-8.75 and the triple jump with 38-6.

 

- Taj-Amir Torres, a Boston College football recruit (DB) from Amherst-Pelham, won the boys 100 meters (10.69) and the 200 (US#67 21.40).

 
- Sierra Irvin, a senior from Hingham, repeated her title in the 400 meters with 56.03 seconds.

 

- Clare Martin, a sophomore from Newton South, won the 800 meters title with 2:10.27.

 

- Ariel Keklak, a junior from Lincoln-Sudbury, won the mile in 4:53.82. She also helped her team win the 4x800 for the second year in a row with 9:19.64, and she would go on to place second in the mile at New Balance Nationals.

 

- In the 400-meter hurdles, Jessica Maki of Taunton ran 1:02.53 for the win.

 

- The boys 400 meters saw a close finish with Rodney Agyare-May, a sophomore from Burncoat, edged out Anthony Delsanta, a junior from Bishop Feehan, 48.35 to 48.37.

 

- Andrew Ernst of Marblehead, a junior, won the mile in 4:15.85.

 

- Katherine Miner from Frontier, a junior, cleared 5-9 to take the high jump title.

 
- Sebastian Silveira of Andover won the 110-meter hurdles in 14.21. Teammate Sean Caveney won the 400 hurdles in 55.01, with Silveira second in 55.89.


Top Teams:


Cambridge Ringe & Latin, with 30 big points coming from Brianna Duncan, won the girls team championship with 51 points. Runner-up Norton had 24. On the boys side, it was Andover taking top honors with 62 points.



Top Competition:


The Big Race at the Massachusetts state meet was the unavoidable clash at 800 meters between P.J. Garmon of Billerica and Joe Luongo of Saint John’s Prep. The seniors were two of the best half-milers in the country and their showdown lived up to the hype. In the end, it was Garmon with a narrow win over Luongo, 1:52.72 to 1:52.84.

 

 

Record-breaker: The Amherst-Pelham boys broke the All-State meet record in the 4x800 relay by running 7:47.73. The lineup consisted of Allen Vance, Aiden Foucault-Etheridge, Connor Evans and Kelzy Rodrigues. With sprint champion Taj Amir-Torres in the lineup, this group also won the 4x400 in 3:20.04.
