Hannah Long leaves lasting impression

 

State Meet Highlights

 
Missouri athletes come together at Dwight Reed Stadium in Jefferson City for the track and field championships. In 2015, the state meet expanded from four classes to five.



Top Performances:

 
- Hannah Long of Eureka dominated the first Class 5 state meet. She won the 800 meters in 2:08.87 and also the 1,600 with an all-time state best and US#3 4:40.15. She also split 2:06.3 on the anchor leg of the 4x800 relay in a performance that will be long remembered. She brought Eureka from fifth to first – and made up five seconds on the leaders – on her anchor carry.

 

- Senior Carlos Davis of Blue Springs didn’t throw as far as he did in 2014, but he still threw 201-9 to repeat as state discus champion. His twin brother, Khalil, was second with 195-4. The brothers also went 1-2 on the shot put. Carlos threw 60-5-75 for the win and Khalil threw 58-8.25. That was 36 points of Blue Springs’ total.

 

- Jacob Peister from Blue Springs led a 1-2 finish in the triple jump with 50-2, while teammate Justin Hall went 48-11.50. Hall also placed second in the long jump.

 

- Lafayette went 1-2-3 in the Class 5 boys 3,200 meters with a trio of non-seniors. Sophomore Austin Hindman won it with 9:11.34, junior Devin Meyrer was next in 9:15.12 and junior Alec Haines was third with 9:19.85. They were all 15 seconds clear of anyone else. Haines also won the 1,600 with 4:11.58. Junior teammate Dylan Quisenberry was fifth in both the 800 and 1,600.

 

- Christopher Nilsen, a junior from Park Hill, jumped an all-classes meet record 17-0 to win the Class 5 pole vault.

 

- Andrew Madison of Liberty North won the Class 5 110 hurdles in 14.11. However, he false started in the 300 hurdles finals despite running the fastest prelim time.

  
- Jasmine Barge from McCluer North, one of the best hurdlers in state history, won the 100 hurdles in 14.08/14.38 and the 300 hurdles in 42.86. She also placed second in the 200 meters (24.79).

 
- Junior Nicole Kallenberger from Lee’s Summit West jumped US#34 12-10.50 to win the Class 5 pole vault.

 

- Anna West, a junior from Lafayette, won the Class 5 3,200 meters with 10:38.38 and also finished second in the 1,600 with 4:54.70.


- Jahliah Clay, a junior from Blue Springs South, was a double winner in the Class 5 100 (12.27) and 200 (24.38).

 

- Destiney Nash, a sophomore from Hazelwood Central, won the Class 5 400 meters in 56.55 seconds.


- Kiante Hardin of Webb City, a Minnesota DB recruit, won the Class 4 sprint titles with 10.71 and 21.50. He also ran 48.18 for second in the 400 meters and was on the runner-up 4x200 relay team.

 

- Quincy Hall, a junior from Raytown South, ran US#26 46.98 to win a sensational 400 meters final. He was also fifth in the 200 and eighth in the 300 hurdles.

 

- Sean Conlin of Ft. Zumwalt East turned in an impressive triple in the Class 4 meet. He placed second in the 800 meters with 1:54.87 (to Scott Kolbar’s 1:54.37), won the 1,600 meters in 4:11.35, and finished second in the 3,200 with 9:19.01 (to Michael Karls’ 9:17.85).


- Taylor Werner of Ste. Genevieve, participating in the new-look Class 4 meet, won the 1,600 in 4:59.62 and the 3,200 in 10:34.27. Her teammate Mia Jerman was second in both events. Werner also brought her team from fourth to first on the anchor leg of the 4x800 relay.


- Allison Hinson from St. Clair threw US#20 47-3.75 to win the Class 4 shot put title. 

 

- Cecilya Johnson from Lutheran South threw US#14 158-2 to win the Class 4 discus.


- Poplar Bluff’s Jabreuna Brimlett swept the Class 4 hurdles events with winning times of 14.23/14.43 and 43.52. She also placed second in the long jump and third in the triple jump to help lead her team to the title. She scored 34 of her team’s 61 points.


- Anglerne Annelus of Grandview ran a state meet record 11.64 in the prelims on the way to winning the Class 4 100 meters. The UCLA recruit also ran a championships record 23.47 in the prelims of the 200 before winning the final. Her 4x200 relay team also won the championship race and the 4x100 team was fourth. A year earlier, she had dominated the sprints in Class 3.


- Maya Cody of Lutheran South placed second in the 100 (11.85/12.08) and the 200 (23.76/24.14) but won the 400 meters in 55.60 in the Class 4 meet.

 

- Daylan Quinn of Liberty, a junior, won the Class 3 800 meters in 1:55.81 and also won the 1,600 in 4:18.49. He was also fifth in the 3,200 meters.


- McCluer South-Berkeley standout Kamira Franklin was a standout at Class 3, sweeping the 100 (12.23), the 200 (25.30) and the 400 (56.56) meters. She also helped her 4x400 relay squad defend its title.


- Junior Sophia Rivera of Brentwood, one of the best throwers in the country, dominated the Class 2 meet with her record-setting shot put (51-1.25) performance. All six of her legal throws exceeded the meet record. She also won the discus with 154-9 and was one of the top javelin throwers in the country.

 

- Austin Corley from Adrian, a senior, broke the meet record in the 300 hurdles (37.25) after also winning the Class 2 titles in the 200 (22.22) and 110 hurdles (14.37). He was also second in the 100 meters.

 

- Lath Kisling from Sarcoxie, a junior, won the Class 2 high jump with 6-8 and also won the long jump with 23-5 and the triple jump with 45-0.

 

- Regan Nash from North Platte ran 12.29 to repeat as Class 2 100 meters champion – she has the only two state track titles in school history. She also placed third in the 200 and helped her team to fourth in the 4x100. She signed to play softball at the University of Missouri.

 

- Morgan Prather from Penney won the 200 (25.32), the 400 (57.49), split 56.77 to anchor the winning 4x400 relay and helped her team place second in the 4x200.

 

- Sophomore Claire Workman from New Covenant broke her own Class 1 meet record in the 800 meters by running 2:16.85. She also won the 1,600 meters and the 3,200 meters. And she helped her 4x800 relay team to victory. New Covenant won the team title with 51 points.

 

- Emily Wedlock, a junior from Mound City, swept the Class 1 hurdles with times of 15.41 and 45.75. She helped her 4x400 relay to third.

 

- Dustin Ellis from Stanberry ran a Class 1 meet record in the 110 hurdles with 14.39 seconds. He won that event and also the 300 hurdles.



Top Teams:


In the brand new Class 5 for track and field, the Blue Springs boys scored a whopping 92 points to win the team championship. What’s amazing about it was the team scored 70 points in field events. McCluer North scored 62 points to capture the girls title.

 

The Grandview boys, led by Maliek Kendall’s hurdles sweep, scored 65 points to win the Class 4 team championship. Poplar Bluff scored 61 points to win the girls title.


In Class 3, McCluer South-Berkeley scored 65 points to runner-up John Burroughs’ 61. In the girls standings, the teams were reversed. The John Burroughs girls edged McCluer South-Berkeley 51.50 to 50.



Top Competition: The Class 3 girls final of the 300-meter hurdles was really good, with MaKayla Waldner from Dexter running US#63 42.89 to defeat fellow junior NeShay Curtis from McCluer-South Berkeley, who ran 43.83.
