A couple of huge meets in Virginia held a couple of big exceptions to the rule over the weekend.
At the Third Battle Invitational in Winchester there were two huge performances turned in by Andrew Hunter of Loudoun Valley, who confirmed for everyone why he is US#1 with a 14:20.8 clocking for 5K. And not to be outdone, Eritrean Weini Kelati blitzed the course in 16:29.
At the MileStat.com Invitational in Mechanicsville, Jonathan Lomogda from Cox ran 14:56 four a four-second win over Tennessee standout Luke Meade (15:00). And in the girls A race, it was freshman Rachel Northcutt of Cosby VA taking the win in 17:57.
At the Runnin' With The Wolves Rocktoberfest, where we had Snapchat coverage from the girls of Jefferson Forest, Libby Davidson ran to a 54-second win in 17:42.10.
In California, the big news came from the Orange County Championships, where Nike Elite Campers ran to big wins. Austin Tamagno of Brea Olinda ran a 3-mile course record 14:31.8 and Amanda Gehrich of Tesoro ran 16:54 four the fourth-fastest time in meet history. DyeStatCal was on hand to gather interviews and photos and race videos.
In Illinois, DyeStatIL's Mike Newman was all over the conference meets and was on hand to witness Judy Pendergast's impressive 16:05 3-mile run at the DuPage Valley Conference Meet. He was also there to see the spectacle of the WSC-Silver Division championship meet. He also put the other conference meets into context.
In Florida, Steven Cross ran a state-leading time of 14:56 at the Cape Coast Conference preview meet and DyeStatFL was there to capture the race video.
