Five Questions: Christian Noble

By Parker West for DyeStat

Christian Noble of of Mount Vernon IN has become a significant player in Indiana of the course of the last year. This was evident last weekend when he ran 14:55 at the Delta Regional meet. The time was almost a minute faster than he covered the course last year, and he went on to place 16th at the Indiana state meet in 2014. Last spring he placed seventh in the state finals of the 3,200 meters.

We caught up with Christian this week to ask him five questions.

Question 1 -- How did you get started with running and when did it start to really click for you?

Christian Noble: Well I didn't really start running until my sophomore year of high school. I did run track my freshman year but I ended up getting a stress fracture. So I started my journey my sophomore year.

What got me into running was my older brother Andrew Noble who told me to try track and I went out and actually liked it. It really clicked for me when I finished 16th in the IHSAA Cross Country State meet. It made me realize that I could potentially be in the top 5 in 2015.

Question 2 -- You've dropped your Cross Country times considerably in a year, going from 15:42 to 14:55. What did you do differently over the summer to get to where you are?

Christian Noble: So going into the 2014 season, I pretty much sat on my couch with a boot on my leg because just like my freshman year I had gotten another stress fracture my sophomore year of track. I was out for about 4-5 months and did not start my fall training until about August 1st. This year my training started two days after the IHSAA Track State finals. I really wanted to get a head start on the training and I put in a lot of good quality miles to build up my base.

Question 3 -- You and your teammate, Aaron Rush, are the fastest duo in the state. What is it like to share this experience with him?

Christian Noble: For Aaron and I, it's really been an awesome experience because we have been so close together in the last 3 years. We had always joked about being the fastest in the state but now that it is happened we don't know what to think of it.  Our sophomore year, I would always say "Aaron, I wonder how fast we will be our senior year." and now that we are here. It’s hard to believe that we have run these times. It is just an overall fun experience to share with him.

Question 4 -- What are some of your goals for the upcoming track season?

Christian Noble: So for this upcoming track season I am hoping to go to the Indoor New Balance Nationals and run in the 5000. But for the outdoor season, I really want to run under 9 minutes in the 3200 and also place top 3 in the state for the 3200. Also I would like to run at New Balance Nationals or at Brooks and compete in the 2 Mile/3200.

Question 5 -- What are you focused on in the postseason?

Christian Noble: For this post season I will be at both Nike and Foot locker and hope to make it out in either one but hopefully both. Hoping for a lot of Indiana guys to make it out in Foot locker, too. (Brayden Law, Ben Veatch, Cooper Williams, Cameron Clements)
