Colbert, Edwards repeat as AAA champs

Abby Colbert of Jefferson County won the Class 3A title for the second straight year and improved her time to 18:04.7 at Cabell Midland High School in Ona.

Colbert, a senior, was 19 seconds faster than her winning time in 2014. She won the state finals race by 47 seconds.

The University girls put four in the top 16 and won the team championship with 47 points. Morgantown (66) and Hurricane (88) were second and third, respectively.

Seth Edwards of University also won for the second straight year and his time was 40 seconds better than 2014. He ran 15:35.9. He finished 14 seconds ahead of Connor Riley from Mogantown.

Cabell Midland went 6-7-8-9-13 in the race and scored 37 points to win its fourth title in seven years. Two-time defending champ University was second with 47 points.

In Class AA/A, sophomore Jessica Melvin from Philip Barbour won the girls race in 19:29.3. Hayden Harrison from Buffalo won the boys race in 16:10.8. Berkeley Springs swept the team titles.
