Performance of the Week, 5/2/16

It was an amazing weekend in high school track and field. Let's take a moment to review some of the top performances, and performers, from the past week. Which ones struck a nerve with you? This week you can vote for three! Thanks. Congratulations to last week's winner, AJ Epenesa.

Here are the nominees:

- Michael Slagowski, Rocky Mountain ID: The senior became the ninth member of the high school sub-four milers club on Friday at the Nike Jesuit Twilight Relays, going 3:59.53 in a high school-only race in light rain in Portland.

- Ja'Mari Ward, Cahokia IL: He had a sensational double at the St. Clair County Boys Championships, breaking the state record in the triple jump with No. 5 all-time 53-7.50 and adding the best wind-legal jump in state history with 25-6.75 in the long jump. For good measure, he also won the 100 (10.83) and 200 (21.71).

- Hannah Reale, Shenendehowa NY: She was almost out on her feet in the final 25 meters but held on and crashed over the finish line to give her team a hard-fought win in the 4x800 relay in 9:00.79. For her courage alone she was named the outstanding girls performer of the meet at Penn Relays.

- Stephanie Jenks, Linn-Mar IA: After running with some pain and suffering a couple of rare losses in Iowa, the senior mounted one last charge and won the 1,500 meters at the Drake Relays to claim her record ninth title at the storied meet. She ran 4:32.02.

- T.C. Williams VA boys: Big efforts by the Lyles brothers pushed these guys to third-place finishes in the 4x100 (40.56) and the 4x400 (3:13.09). The teams that beat them were from Jamaica.
