Aragon dominates with historic triple

 

State Meet Highlights - RESULTS

 

- Christina Aragon of Billings Senior put on a show for the ages at the Montana state meet, cementing herself as one of the state’s all-time greats. She might be, in fact, the greatest high school track athlete in state history. She won the 800 meters in 2:05.65 for a US#1. She won the 1,600 meters in 4:43.51 for a new all-time state best. And she won the 3,200 meters in 10:23.31. She was entered in the 400 and false started. She also ran on the second place 4x400.

- Annie Hill of Glacier, just a sophomore, was in the unenviable role of second fiddle. But she still placed second to Aragon twice and third in the 800. Her triple: 2:09.32, 4:52.13 and 10:44.36.

- Carly Smiedala of Helena won the Class AA 400 meters in 57.03 and placed second in the 800 in 2:08.52.

- Connor Matthews of Helena showed he was the best long sprinter in the state, taking the 200 in 22.12 and the 400 in 47.75. His 400 broke a 40-year-old all-time state best.

- Kelly Murnion from little Garfield County won the Class C title in the 400 with 48.64 seconds.

- Dawson LaRance of Billings Senior won the AA 800 meters in 1:53.14. He was fifth in the 1,600.

- Jake Perrin from Flathead won the Class AA title in the 1,600 (4:12.06) and the 3,200 (9:04.35).

- Bailee Parker from West Yellowstone ensured that she will go down as the best Class C runner in state history, taking the 1,600 in 4:57.09 and the 3,200 in 10:31.82 against very little competition.

- Cleet Wrzesinski of Ennis won Class C titles in the 110 hurdles (14.98) and the 300 hurdles (37.90).

- Morgan Evans of Great Falls swept the AA girls hurdles finals, with 14.70 and 43.79 seconds.

- The Billings West girls tied the all-time state record in the 4x100 relay with 48.38 seconds. Sophomore Maddie Brockel was the catalyst. She anchored the 4x100 and also the winning 4x400. She also won the AA 100 (12.48) and 200 (25.16).  

- Helena’s boys ran one of the fastest 4x400s in state history with 3:19.96 in the AA final.

- Leah Thompson of Plains threw 154-11 to win the Class C discus.

- Billings West roared to a sweep of the Class AA team titles. The boys scored 94 points and the girls scored 83.

- The Ennis boys scored 83 points to capture the Class C crown. Plains scored 66 for the girls team title.

- Pipi Eitel from Belgrade won the Class A 400 meters in 58.55 seconds. She also won the 800 in 2:16.81 and the 300 hurdles in 46.06 and anchored the winning 4x400 relay.

- Luke May from Whitefish won the Class A javelin with a state-best throw of 203-6.

- Caleb Neth of Manhattan left his imprint all over the Class B meet. He won the 400 (49.98), the 300 hurdles (38.32), the long jump (23-3.75) and anchored the winning 4x400 relay. He was also second in the 110 hurdles and was on the second-place 4x100 relay.

- Alec Nehring of Manhattan was the top thrower in the state. He won the Class B shot put with 60-6 and the discus with 177-8.

- Logan Morley of Bigfork swept the distance events in Class B. He went 1:57.14 in the 800, 4:18.16 in the 1,600 and 9:40.84 in the 3,200.

- Hailey Poole of Colstrip won the Class B javelin with a throw of 152-8.

 

- In Class A, Beaverhead County won the boys title with 82 points. Corvallis won the girls championship with 67. In Class B, Manhattan rolled to the boys championship with 114 points and the Malta girls won with 71 points.
