USC's Adoree' Jackson Makes Latest Jump, Declares For NFL DraftPublished by
Jackson ready for jump to pro football Jim Thorpe Award winner as nation's top defensive back, two-time long jump All-American passes on remaining football, track and field eligibility to declare for NFL Draft By Erik Boal, DyeStat Editor
USC defensive back/return specialist Adoree’ Jackson decided Monday to forego his final season of football eligibility and give up his remaining two years of track and field competition to declare for the NFL Draft. The decision doesn’t just affect the future of the Trojans’ football team, but the track and field program as well after Jackson – the 2012 California state champion – earned All-America honors twice by placing fifth in the men’s long jump in consecutive years at the NCAA Outdoor Championships. He is USC’s first male long jumper to secure All-America accolades in back-to-back years since 1983-84. Jackson, who is tied for ninth all-time at USC with his 25-11.50 performance at the 2015 NCAA final, also placed 10th in the long jump at the U.S. Olympic Trials in July. USC will rely on Eric Sloan and Dominic Smallwood as potential scorers this year in the long jump at the NCAA Indoor and Outdoor Championships. Jackson, the Jim Thorpe Award winner as the nation’s top defensive back, is projected to be a late first- or early second-round pick in the NFL Draft in April. Jackson was USC’s first Jim Thorpe honoree since Mark Carrier in 1989.
