Less than 24 hours after UTEP freshman Emmanuel Korir ran the world’s fastest men’s indoor 600-meter time ever Friday in New Mexico, another record was set in the event across the country Saturday by one of the nation's top high school seniors. Rush-Henrietta NY star Sammy Watson clocked 1 minute, 28.67 seconds in the indoor 600 at the Section 5 vs. Section 6 Invitational at Houghton College in New York to eclipse the girls national high school record of 1:28.78 set in 2015 by Suffern NY standout Kamryn McIntosh. RESULTS McIntosh and Watson are scheduled to race head to head Feb. 4 in the 600 at the Armory Track Invitational. It is the second national high school indoor record for Watson, who was a member of the 3:52.68 sprint medley relay lineup from Rush-Henrietta in 2015. Watson also has the potential to break national high school indoor records this year in the 1,000 meters – she is ranked No. 2 all-time at 2:45.32 – and possibly the 800, an event she is ranked sixth in prep history at 2:05.11, although she has run 2:02.91 outdoors in June.
