Whiting, Gill Add Depth to Loaded Shot Put Competitions

By Scott Bush, DyeStat Editor

As indoor track and field starts to heat up in the United States and Europe, outdoor track and field is already in full swing in Australia and New Zealand.

According to Athletics New Zealand, reigning Olympic champion Ryan Crouser has confirmed entry into a trio of competitions against New Zealand's Olympic bronze medalist Tom Walsh. Added to the mix are two-time World Indoor champion Ryan Whiting and fellow Olympians Jacko Gill and Damien Birkinhead.

The quintet of star power plans to compete at three meets in February:

February 19 - Big Shot and Fast K
February 22 - Vertical Pursuit
February 26 - Auckland Track Challenge

What makes the head-to-head matchups involving Crouser and Walshall all the more special is that the top track and field stars rarely square off more than a time or two each season – think of how often Bolt versus Gatlin has happened over the past three years. Three competitions over the course of a week should provide some incredible excitement, especially with home country crowds cheering on Walsh and Gill.

Stay tuned for more analysis of these events as they get closer.
