A Big Week for Preps and Pros

The championship season of indoor track and field is upon us and that has made for some big performances, including two high school record, a world all-time best and a world record. High school athletes and professionals alike were in action at the USATF Indoor Championships. The European Indoor Championships were also this week. Gwen Berry: The 2016 Olympian established a new world all-time best in the women's weight throw at the USATF Indoor Championships in Albuquerque, N.M. with a mark of 84-0 (25.60m).

Erica Bougard: The two-time senior Team USA, competing all three days at the USATF Indoor Championships, won the pentathlon with 4,558 points Friday, won the long jump with a leap of 21-1.50 (6.44m) on Saturday and finished fifth in the high jump with a clearance of 5-9.75 (1.77m) on Sunday.

Kelsey Chmiel: The high school standout from Saratoga Springs NY broke the sophomore girls national class record in the 3,000 meters at the NYPHSAA Track and Field Championships in New York with a time of 9:26.28, making her the #10 all-time prep performer indoors.

Keni Harrison: The 100-meter hurdles world record holder tied the meet record in the 60-meter hurdles at the USATF Indoor Championships with a time of 7.74, just off the American record of 7.72. She leads the world this year.

Candace Hill: The Rockdale County GA senior and ASICS-sponsored pro set the world junior all-time best in the 300 meters by finishing third at the USATF Indoor Championships from the 'B' final with a time of 36.56. The indoor 300 meters is not a record event according to the IAAF.

Noah Lyles: The World U20 100-meter champion broke the meet record in the prelims of the 300 meters at the USATF Indoor Championships with a time of 32.16. He then went on to set the world all-time best in the final with a time of 31.87. The indoor 300 meters is not a record event according to the IAAF.

Laura Muir: The 2016 Olympian from Great Britain earned gold medals in both the 1,500 and 3,000 meters at the European Indoor Championships in Belgrade, Serbia. She won the 1,500 meters in 4:02.39, a new meet and British record, and the 3,000 meters in 8:35.67, also a meet record.

Adrian "Tripp" Piperi: The high school senior from The Woodlands TX won the outdoor shot put at the Katy ISD Bubba Fife Relays with a US#5 all-time 74-11.5 (22.85m).

Ivana Spanovic: The 2016 Olympian from Serbia dominated the women's long jump in front of a home crowd, leaping out to a mark of 23-9 (7.24m). It was the #7 indoor jump of all-time and makes her the #3 all-time performer indoors.

Samantha Watson: The high school senior from Rush Henrietta NY broke the high school record in the 1,000 meters Saturday in the prelims at the USATF Indoor Championships, running 2:43.18. In the final Sunday, she shattered the record again, running 2:40.72 with a fourth-place finish.

Alyssa Wilson: The high school senior from Monsignor Donovan NJ shattered the high school record in the shot put with a mark of 57-5.50 (17.51m) to win the Eastern States Indoor Championships at The Armory in New York.
