Several Olympic stars, or athletes with aspirations of racing at the IAAF World Championships in August, demonstrated they continued to be on the right track with impressive performances Thursday at the USATF Distance Classic at Occidental College.  RESULTS  WEBCAST REPLAY

American Hillary Bor ran a world-leading 8 minutes, 23.08 seconds in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and Matthew Centrowitz prevailed in a showdown of Olympic champions with British star Mo Farah in the 1,500 to produce one of four additional U.S. leaders in a tuneup for the May 26-27 Prefontaine Classic at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore.

Centrowitz covered the final 400 meters in 54.4 seconds to prevail by a 3:33.41 to 3:34.19 margin over Farah, with another British standout Chris O’Hare running a personal-best 3:34.35 for third. The race produced the sixth-, seventh- and ninth-fastest times in the world this year.

Centrowitz, who eclipsed Farah’s 2012 meet record of 3:34.66, also prevailed in the 1,500 at the event in 2014. It marked the seventh time in his career Centrowitz ran under 3:34, including his first since 2015.

Farah, the four-time Olympic gold medalist in the 5,000 and 10,000, had only run one 1,500 in each of the past two years, both under 3:32.

Farah will compete in the 5,000, with Centrowitz running the 1,500 at the Pre Classic.

Bor’s performance improved on a May 6 hand time of 8:23.2 by Kenya’s Emmanuel Bett and was the fastest opening steeplechase of his career. Denmark’s Ole Hesselbjerg was second in a personal-best 8:27.89, No. 10 in the world this year.

Only twice had Bor run faster, at last year’s Olympic final – where he placed seventh – and at the Brussels Diamond League in September, when he ran his personal-best 8:13.68.

Brenda Martinez delivered her second stellar effort at Occidental in less than a month, lowering her own Jack Kemp Stadium record and clocking the fastest time in meet history with her 1:58.78, the No. 4 time in the world this year. Great Britain’s Adelle Tracey ran a personal-best 2:00.35 to improve to 11th in the world this year.

Martinez, who ran 1:59.21 on May 6 at the Oxy Invite, dipped under 1:59 for the sixth time in her career and the first since 2014.

Shadrack Kipchirchir, a U.S. Olympian in the 10,000, won the men’s 5,000 in 13:23.74, just ahead of American Distance Project standout Abbabiya Simbassa in 13:25.79, producing the ninth- and 13th-fastest times in the world this year.

Great Britain’s Laura Weightman won her 5,000-meter debut, edging American Natosha Rogers by a 15:08.24 to 15:08.29 margin. Weightman had never run professionally in a race above 3,000 meters and Rogers, who was 23rd at the IAAF World Cross Country Championships in March, improved her 5,000 personal best by 20 seconds from last year’s meet.

Canadian star Sheila Reid continued her comeback from a tibia injury last year by running 4:07.07 in the women’s 1,500 to edge American Shannon Rowbury (4:07.17), Kenyan Violah Lagat (4:07.66) and fellow Canadian Sasha Gollish (4:07.70). It was a three-second improvement for Reid from her May 5 victory at Oregon Twilight.

Reid improved to No. 8 in the world this year, with Rowbury 10th, Lagat 14th and Gollish 15th.

Mel Lawrence led a Oiselle sweep of the top three spots in the women’s 3,000 steeplechase along with fellow Americans Marisa Howard and Alexina Wilson, with the trio clocking 9:40.20, 9:40.40 and 9:40.90.

Luke Mathews of Melbourne Track Club won the men’s 800 in 1:46.44, with Great Britain’s Kyle Langford second in 1:46.77.
