By Mike Newman for DyeStat Here are the summaries of the second-round meets: WEST REGIONAL Rancho Verde CA 73, Mt. Spokane WA 63 Things didn't look promising for the California state champions after the field events as they trailed Mt. Spokane by more than 40 points (48-6). That momentum switched around on the track as Rancho Verde won eight of the 10 running events. Their sweep in the 200 meters, led by the win by Isaiah Cunningham, put them in the lead for good. Mt. Spokane closed the gap to five points after Hayden Dressel won the 3,200, but Rancho Verde closed the meet by winning the 4x400 relay. Manvel TX 73, Blue Springs MO 68 This meet came down to the 4x400 relay to decide the winner. Blue Springs held a big advantage after the field events as they had a 41-13 lead. Manvel slowly fought back with wins by London Harris in the 110- and 300-meter hurdles, Howard Fields in the 400 and Caleb Jovilette in the 100. Blue Springs took the top two spots in the 3,200, tying the meet at 68 points heading into the 4x400 relay. Manvel’s win in the final event helped them advance to the regional semifinals. Great Oak CA 87.5, Billings West MT 47.5 Great Oak rolled into the regional semifinals started by wins by CJ Stevenson in the long and triple jumps. The Wolfpack had a 16-point lead after the field events, an advantage that only grew on the track as they won seven of those 10 events. The Woodlands TX 74, Davis UT 53 In their first-round meet, The Woodlands scored 51 points in the field events on its way to an easy win. It was different in this meet as the Highlanders only had a 25-20 advantage. Davis took the lead 28-26 as Caleb Kamalu won the 110-meter hurdles. A sweep in the 1,600, led by Noah Wells, gave The Woodlands the lead for good. EAST REGIONAL Edwardsville IL 70, Thomas Worthington OH 62 This was not as close as the eight-point final margin indicated. Edwardsville had a 32-13 lead after the field events, led by wins in the shot put and discus throw by AJ Epenesa. Worthington closed the gap as Arjun Jha won the 1,600 meters, leading his team to a 1-2-3 sweep. The Cardinals could not get any closer as Edwardsville had at least one point in the remaining six events before the 4x400 relay. Carmel IN 82, Bullis MD 51 Sweeps in the pole vault and the discus throw led the Indiana state champions into the regional semifinals. Ryan Lipe led a Carmel sweep in the pole vault, with Bryce Sharp leading the sweep in the discus. Carmel’s distance strength showed as it picked up 26 of the 27 available points in the three events. Hoover AL 99.5, Memphis Central TN 41.5 Only nine points separated the teams in the field events, with Hoover having the edge (31.5-22.5). The Alabama 7A state champions took command on the track, sweeping the three relays, as well as winning seven of the eight individual events. Franklin NJ 73, Westlake GA 59 This was a rollercoaster meet with the lead changing throughout. Franklin had a 28-26 advantage after the field events. Westlake took the lead when the action headed to the track when they won the 4x800 relay, as well as a 1-2 finish in the 110 hurdles. In the next five individual events, Franklin had 1-3 finishes, giving the Warriors a 15-point edge which they would never relinquish. More news |
