Armstrong repeats title at Larry Burgess-Las Vegas Invitational

Out of state teams shine in Las Vegas

Teams from Utah and Arizona proved better that any Southern Nevada school at the Larry Burgess-Las Vegas Invitational. Cedar City HS from Utah won the Large School Varsity Girls race with 28 points, placing five in the top 15. Page AZ won the Large School Varsity Boys race by three points over Green Valley NV, 116-119. RESULTS

Hurricane UT dominated the Small School Division, winning both boys and girls team titles.

Small School Boys – Hurricane junior Caleb Armstrong repeated at the champion, running 14:50 over the 3-mile course, easily outdistancing second place finisher Bryce Odegard (15:29) from Pahrump Valley. Hurricane put the next three in behind Odegard to win with 25 points.  Pahrump was second with 56 points.

Small School Girls – Hurricane sophomore Hailey Odekirk defended her 2016 title with a two-second win over Las Vegas Desert Pines' Jazmin Felix (18:56 to 18:58). Hurricane placed five in the top 19 for a 32-58 victory over Desert Pines.

Large School Boys – Cedar City senior, Jensen Lambert was the only other runner to break 15:00 with a 17 second win over Page’s Bowen Martin (14:57-15:14). Green Valley senior Milton Amezcua (15:33) was third.

Large School Girls – Cedar City swept the top three spots with junior Mic Webster (17:39), junior Harley Taylor (17:42) and junior Kaysie Klemic (18:19). The top Southern Nevada finisher was Henderson Basic junior Raquel Chavez (fourth in 18:26). Cedar City scored 33 points to 98 for Las Vegas Centennial. Centennial ran without defending champion Alexis Gourrier, who was away on a recruiting visit.
