Damian Warner and Anouk Vetter Win DecastarPublished by
Warner and Vetter Use Decastar Wins to Finish Second in IAAF Combined Events ChallengeBy Adam Kopet It was not a record-setting weekend in Talence, France at the Decastar, the final stop of the IAAF Combined Events Challenge. But that did not matter to Canada's Damian Warner and the Netherlands' Anouk Vetter, who came away winners in the two-day competition, according to the IAAF. Warner had planned to skip the Decastar, but after dealing with illness in London at the IAAF World Outdoor Championships, where he finished fifth in the decathlon, he felt the need to extend his season to end it on a positive note. Warner did just that this weekend, winning his second Combined Events Challenge meeting of the year. His score of 8,252 points moved him into second in the men's Combined Events Challenge standings, earning him a $20,000 prize. Rico Freimuth of Germany won the overall series, winning $30,000. Vetter's win also moved her into second in the women's Combined Events Challenge standings, earning her the same prize as Warner. The World Championships heptathlon bronze medalist scored 6,363 points at Decastar. That was not enough to overcome the series lead of Germany's Carolin Schäfer. More news |
