Mo Farah Will Leave the Nike Oregon Project and Splitting with Coach Alberto SalazarBy Adam Kopet According to Vikki Orvice for the Sun, Mo Farah is leaving the Nike Oregon Project and splitting with coach Alberto Salazar. Farah confirmed the information in a video he posted to social media.
Farah won four Olympic gold medals and six world championship gold medals in the 5,000 and 10,000 meters under Salazar's tutelage. He retired from the track this past summer and will focus on the roads going forward. The 34-year old plans to move with his family back to London, where they resided before Farah made the move to Portland starting with the 2011 season. In another Vikki Orvice article for the Sun, Farah asserts the move is for his family and is unrelated to the doping allegations made against Salazar and Galen Rupp in a BBC documentary in 2015. Both Salazar and Rupp have denied the allegations. In the U.K., Farah will be guided by Gary Lough, Paula Radcliffe's husband and former coach. Lough coached Radcliffe to the marathon world record (2:15:25) in 2003, a mark she still holds. Farah will be making his second attempt at the marathon at the Virgin Money London Marathon in April. He ran 2:08:21 at the 2014 London Marathon. More news |
