Girls Regional Rankings - 11/16/17

All but a few state meets are now in the books, providing greater clarity to the regional rankings picture. And with three NXR meets already complete, the Northwest, Midwest and Heartland region rankings are set.

The big changes this week came in the Northeast and Southeast regions. North Hunterdon NJ returns to the top spot, after having fallen out of the top five entirely in the Northeast, with the top performance at the New Jersey Group Championships.

In the Southeast, Blacksburg VA retains the top spot, but Chiles FL and Pine Crest FL move up to second and third after strong Florida state meet performances. The addition of Cardinal Gibbons NC in the top five nearly rewrites the Southeast rankings this week.

This coming week will see the NXR South and Southwest regionals. Keller TX remains the favorite in the South, but it could be a four-way battle for the second automatic spot for nationals.

In the Southwest, it is all Colorado up front, with the state still holding the top three spots. If the NXR meet goes to plan, all three teams (Mountain Vista, Battle Mountain and Broomfield) could make the starting line in Portland.

California is another region that should be watched this weekend. The rankings have changed little in recent weeks, but with section finals this weekend, in the lead up to next week's state meet, there could be changes. Great Oak, Claremont and Buchanan appear safe to stay in the top three, but there is no guarantee Granada and Vista Murrieta can hold positions.
