World Indoor Champion Yomif Kejelcha Joins Nike Oregon Project

By Adam Kopet

Ethiopia's Yomif Kejelcha has joined the Nike Oregon Project, sources close to the Nike Oregon Project confirm.

The 20-year-old Kejelcha has found success in Oregon before. He won the 5,000 meters at the 2014 IAAF World Junior Championships and the 3,000 at the 2016 IAAF World Indoor Championships.

His other global championship performances include fourth-place finishes in the 5,000 at the 2015 and 2017 IAAF World Outdoor Championships.

Kejelcha is in Portland and was a spectator at Nike Cross Nationals, along with Alberto Salazar, Jordan Hasay and Matthew Centrowitz.

With Galen Rupp moving to the marathon and Mo Farah leaving the Nike Oregon Project to pursue his own marathon goals, Kejelcha becomes the top 5,000-meter athlete in the training group. He would possibly join Eric Jenkins as a training partner.
