Claudia Lane, Sydney McLaughlin Earn Performance of the Week Honors - 12/12/17Published by
High School and College Stars Earn This Week's Performance of the Week AwardsTrack and field fans voiced their choices in this week's DyeStat's Performance of the Week poll, while DyeStat's editors made their own selection. Readers’ Choice: Claudia LaneWith 43.61 percent of the vote, Claudia Lane won our Readers’ Choice vote, beating Sydney McLaughlin with her second-place tally of 20.79 percent. The Malibu CA junior took the lead from the gun at the Foot Locker Cross Country Championships and never needed to look back. She went on to win the 5K race in 17:03.4, 19.1 seconds ahead of second-place Katelynne Hart. It was the 10th-best winning margin in girls Foot Locker history. Lane had hoped to challenge Melody Fairchild's 1990 Balboa Park course record of 16:39, but it was not to be. Lane did become the sixth girl to win two Foot Locker titles and the first to win back-to-back championships since Erin Sullivan in 1997-98. Watch Lane's race. Watch Lane's post-race interview. Editors’ Choice: Sydney McLaughlinThis was another week of stellar performances. In addition to Lane's dominating win in the girls race at Foot Locker, Sandburg IL senior Dylan Jacobs bounced back from a 13th-place finish at NXN to win the boys race. Graydon Morris of Aledo TX, only a sophomore, should also get recognition for his second-place finish after placing 34th as a freshman. It was a big weekend for college indoor track and field as well. Samantha Watson broke the Texas A&M school record in the 1,000 meters in her collegiate debut, moving her to #7 on the all-time collegiate indoor list. In another debut, Kentucky's Dwight St. Hillaire moved up to #5 on the collegiate all-time list with his performance at 300 meters. However, this week's Editors' Choice goes to Sydney McLaughlin. Like St. Hillaire, McLaughlin made her debut for Kentucky in the 300 meters. She destroyed the school and facility records at the Hoosier Open, running 36.12. McLaughlin's performance moves her to #2 on the U.S. all-time indoor list, and #5 on the U.S. absolute list. It also ranks her as the #2 collegiate performer all-time and as the fastest sea-level mark ever run in the NCAA.
