Mareno transferring from Stanford to N.C. StatePublished by
Nevada Mareno aiming for re-start at N.C. State By Mary Albl of DyeStat Distance runner Nevada Mareno confirmed in a Twitter message Monday evening she is transferring from Stanford University to North Carolina State University. The freshman, who is a 2017 graduate of Leesville Road High School in Raleigh, NC, (located about 11 miles from N.C. State) redshirted for Stanford this past cross country season. She finished second at the 2016 Foot Locker Cross Country Nationals. Mareno will join an N.C. State distance team that includes sisters Wesley and Ryen Frazier. During part of her prep career, Mareno worked with the Frazier’s father, Tim. Mareno said Monday evening she will be eligible to compete this 2018 indoor season, but “coach and I have made no definite choice if I will use it or not.” Mareno brings in a high school personal best of 4:43.3 in the mile and 10:00.4 2-mile. The Wolfpack women are coming off a banner cross country season where they won the Atlantic Coast Conference, claimed the NCAA Southeast Regional title and finished eighth at the NCAA Division 1 Championships. |
